I woke up thirty three, not quite where I thought I’d be

Fell short of a lot of dreams and expectations that are put on me

A lot of those things I thought I’d need

Don’t mean as much as I thought they’d mean

I sure got far away from where I’d say I’d be today

But I’m closer to right where I should have been

To the man I really am and to the friends who call me friend

And I’m even closer to the woman that I love, to my faith in God above

I’m still not sure exactly where it is I’m goin'

But I’m closer, little bit closer

Well, I guess at some point that switch turned off

And I stopped being the man I’m not

But counting on what I ain’t got

And I found a faith somewhere I lost

And got closer to right where I should have been

To the man I really am and to the friends who call me friend

And that world I’d thought I’d find
