The night soon claims the day,

Shadows grow long where I lay,

I watch the sunlight dance off my wall

As leaves fall down in vain.

I had you on my mind,

I think I see you sometimes

I smile when I think of that Betsey dress,

And that night when we were a mess.

I’m going to watch it fade away

Into Remembrance Day.

I saw you standing there,

Unraveling in the autumn air,

You’re going to ask if I’m painting again,
