Our Reverend's Grave - Crypt Sermon

There is a light at the end of the road

Where no birds sing and the cold wind blows

And a sign reads welcome home

Nearing the light the hour grows late

I wrap my fingers 'round the lock at the gate

Gonna call this place my home

Come down Moses, the mountain’s on fire

That brazen serpent in your hand

Your god has made me a liar

I bite my tongue or I’d be damned

I’ve opened the door

And crossed the threshold

I’m searching for more

And I’m calling your name

O!

at the end of life there’s nothing more

Begging for scraps at the master’s table

The table’s bare, the legs are unstable

I’ve never tasted a crumb

Sister, heal me, my side is on fire

Spear

Ichor

Wine

This thirst has made me a liar

I’ve never tasted it, but I’m told it’s divine

I’ve opened the door

And crossed the threshold

I’m searching for more

And did you call my name?

Well here I am, now where are you?

I thought for sure you said you’d be here to meet me.

But there’s nothing here but solitude

So is this my reward for believing?

Just tattered memories unravelled by insanity

At the end of life there’s nothing

If you come to my grave as darkness draws near

You’ll read no name, just these words: «I wish you were here.»

Cry out

Here I am, now where are you?
