It was a while ago

Growing up in the back woods

First things first

I was living in Kansas with my Dad

We didn’t have much

Blue collar, working class

He was always off at work

So my step-mom beat my ass

I never knew why me

All I knew was it hurt

Especially out in the cold and the rain

Trying to sleep in a patch of grass

Just to find food to eat
